Our History

In the mid 70’s Jerry Burton was a partner in a small construction company, Century Builders, in the Los Angeles area. Here he learned the remodeling business and the hands-on trades of framing, concrete, masonry, roofing, and other construction services. In April of 1976, Jerry moved his family to the Spokane, Washington area and worked for others in construction before starting his own company.

Jerry Burton Construction was established in 1978 as a sole proprietorship. During the early years the company focused on residential construction. In 1992, Jerry Burton Construction entered into the Public Works and Federal Contracting arenas. Finally, in May of 1997, the company incorporated in the State of Washington under the name of Burton Construction, Inc. (BCI).

Today BCI is 51% owned by Jerry Burton and 49% owned by Jennifer Burton. The company operates almost exclusively in the Public Works and Federal Contracting arenas. The hub of our construction activity is in our own backyard in the Pacific Northwest; serving customers in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. However, our résumé also includes projects in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Kansas, New Mexico, Utah, and the United States Territory of Guam.

From the top of the world in Barrow, Alaska to the rainy shores of Guam, the nature of the construction industry requires that our team be dynamic; fluid and flexible. However, the philosophy remains the same. “We surround ourselves with quality people. We work as a team. When we succeed, it’s because everybody contributed to that project.”

Our Value Proposition

The value we bring to a project is more than a superior finished product. Our value lies in our endeavor to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction through communication, accountability, and performance throughout your project.

Communication: A successful project requires the collaboration of the entire team. From concept to close out, BCI actively engages owners and subcontractors to insure that we are meeting their expectations for general construction and contract administration. This collaborative effort increases productivity and decreases change orders.

Accountability: We stand behind our work and our BCI team. We pride ourselves in our reputation for fairness in contract negotiations and change order requests. All BCI employees are encouraged to contribute their input in efforts to improve a project and/or affect policy changes to improve the company; the working environment of the corporate office, satellite offices, and job site locations. By design, collaboration of the entire team garners respect. There is a pride in the company and the product, insuring a higher quality of performance and workmanship.

Performance: The exceptional management quality of BCI has been consistent for over 40 years. Through standard business practices, we have shown our uncompromising commitment to superior construction services completing every project on time, on budget, and to the satisfaction of the owner/agency.
